I'm here. I'm in Memphis TN area with a red '05 Rubi named Elmo

Nice name.

A friend of mine named mine "Long John Silver." I guess that's fair, because I sold him my old green TJ before I bought it my LJ, and he kept the name I gave it of "The Grinch." I always thought that was a fitting name since it's heart was two sizes too small. (It was a four cylinder.)

excellent names, both of them. I also had a green TJ, named Mr Toad because the paint was so shabby, LOL

soooooo.....what did everyone's Jeep get for Christmas? I just got some gift cards and bought some red-housed LED pods for my windshield and a top prop so my mesh top will leave more headroom. Yeah I know it's cold and the hardtop will be on for a few more months, but I kicked myself all summer for not having one every time it rained and my cover sagged and leaked all over the seats and dash.

Also, I got a Plano case I'm going to put my air compressor and accessories in. I just need to get an extra air hose before I cut the foam.

I joined this Forum in Dec/14. Then picked up a newbie looking LJ and for Christmas thought my 1st Mod would be the GR8 Xtop. Hope it comes soon! The LJ is green and I haven't found a proper name yet. Maybe the "Money Pit". My Brother sent me a set of those Quadratec floor liners and they fit real nice!

EllJay05
01-01-2015, 02:34 PM
well evidentally the seller took 4 days to realize that the red LED pods were out of stock :(
Anyone know where to get some LED cubes with red housings?

Was trying to order some d-ring mounts for my Rough Country bumper, but they were short-staffed and busy and I could never get through to the right person. Guess I'll try again next week. Grumble....

So looks like I won't be installing anything on the Jeep this weekend like I had hoped :(

eBay. They said they are out of stock, but they still have a listing for another identical set for twice as much.

Oh well, I think I found another seller with the same ones and the first guy is supposed to issue a refund, so we shall see...

It makes me wonder if an eBay seller has a product. Then they sell it to themselves for a low price. When you search for it, you see the product and the fake low price. You go to the site. You can't buy it for the low price, but then settle and just buy it for the higher price because you don't want to search anymore.

Scramblur, are you taking pics on the install. I would be interested in what all is entailed to install the rock jocks. (what worked, what did not etc.) Still waiting on my GR8Top, 3 people ordered the Top same day I did and I was #4:(

I got the G2s from 4WD Hardware. They are bolt in. They came with no directions for the currie correctlinc steering and tracbar(which needed welding). I had to go to Curries web sight to find directions. Sounds like Gr8Tops is pretty busy. I have not called them yet. I have a CJ 8 roll bar I am planning on using with the GR8Top to give it the old school look.

Not out of line in the least! Given that was a Scrambler event, there were very few non CJ-8s. :)

I do own a JK, wife's DD, nothing wrong with them at all, but I love my LJ, CJ-8 and '77 Cherokee all more ;)

Jeep folks will be swimming in JKs for decades to come, I am just now writing a piece for the website about the new Jeep sales figures that illustrates the point.

bump to keep this alive. I Love seeing posts on here. I've been so busy in court and other things lately I haven't been able to sit down and read them.

My LJ is down for the moment. I'm having some issues.. anyone else snap rear control arm bolts constantly? Last run out I managed to snap a bolt, dislodge my rear coil and the coil snapped the brake line. other then bolts, that's the only real trail break i've had. I just threaded a screw into the brake line and Was able to drive home..

ps.. Mine also doesn't have a name.. Was thinking Fenix because its Red, had an idiot last owner and I rebuilt everything..

if my luck holds out, I'll have some red half doors by tomorrow. They're from an older TJ and probably not quite the same red, but they'll look better than the shabby black ones I have now. I'm too embarrassed to even put them on, LOL

I took this one a little while after the other one. I just realized I caught my neighbor's red TJ in the background. You can barely see it lurking behind the pillar light on the passenger side. Neighborhood kids from the other end of the street often come looking for him at MY house when he's not home. Hey kids there's more than one red Jeep living on this end of the street, LOL

Those Red LED pods are looking sharp! Santa finally got em delivered! I got my Xtop and it aint so GR8. OK, its awesome but it did not fit like a glove as others have said. (the lips that hang over the tub behind the doors did not fit the rail) Called for suggestions (left message, did not return my call. its been a week Hmmm) Guess I am just being a sissy, So I will quit crying now! Fits like it should now and looks awesome! You will need to add more weather stripping around the door seal areas to keep out the air and water. My wife tells me I am just to anal about everything I do. Cant wait to take her out on the trail!
The roll of TP is in the glove box. Lol

I assume these were off of an older TJ based on the mirrors. I guess Jeep didn't offer as many shades of red paint as they did green over the years. Or someone just swapped mirrors to the older style.

came home to a RC longarm upgrade kit sitting on my front porch today...and my boyfriend acting like he had no idea how it got there, LOL.
Even better, it was addressed to "Gwen the Legend". Obviously our buddy at RC had a little fun with it when my bf told him to address it to me.

Now I just gotta get this 10 day DisneyWorld vacation out of the way next week and then my lil' baby Elmo can finally get some "big boy" parts. I'll still need a few parts plus wheels and tires, but I'm excited as Hell my boy's finally gonna grow up a little.

oh yeah, got some new black upper skins for those red half doors. I got them off of ebay, listed as "demos or returned" but I can't find a dang thing wrong with them. They look brand new. I think I paid like $70 for them, shipped. Spring needs to hurry up!

A shot of vodka with a teaspoon of ground cayenne pepper in it. Old home remedy from Russia that an immigrant coworker turned me onto years ago. I do that at the first twinge of a sore throat and haven't had a full-blown sore throat in the years since.

Seriously, no lie, not once.

A couple of times I've had to repeat it once or twice when I still felt that twinge the next day, but it never got past that early little twinge stage when it doesn't really hurt. I found some bacon-infused vodka that I use now and it's actually pretty damn tasty.

i had some sinus crud about a month ago that never completely went away. I've had a random snot-wad floating around in my throat ever since that every now and again makes its presence known. It flared up on the plane ride home since I was swallowing so much to keep my ears clear. I've got some antibiotics here at work I may snag for a few days. I never had a fever or any other symptoms just that annoying "frog in the throat".

I'm not a fan of vodka or cayenne (other than growing them in my garden) but I'll have to remember that trick.

About to be transmission shopping?

EllJay05
08-08-2015, 06:35 PM
I hope not. I've had this jeep since January 2014 and never had a lick of trouble out of the transmission. My car had been acting up so the LJ had daily driver duty this week. It kinda "hiccupped" one time coming home on Wednesday but I couldn't tell what was causing it (engine, or tranny). It drove just fine afterward, even coming in the next morning. Things seemed perfectly normal until Thursday afternoon's drive home when it did it again and the CEL popped on. I peeked under the hood and everything seemed OK, so I waited for some other Jeepers headed the same direction to arrive and drove it home without incident. I didn't know it was a tranny code until I got home and did the key on/off trick. I still had to run a brief errand and it acted OK, other than one spot where it seemed kinda gutless ascending a small incline.

I have a date with a mechanic tomorrow morning to investigate further. I had to get the car fixed today. I do know that since the jeep was lifted the line on the shifter didn't really want to sit straight on the "D", but rest a hair forward. I'm still running factory sized tires, wheels, and gearing so it's not like there's more to lug around just yet.

Lucky j
08-08-2015, 10:10 PM
When you saiy "the je was lifted" by how much, and did you modify the transmission skid plate elevation?

If you raised or lower the skid plate, then yes, you need to reajust the linkage.

But if you went with no more than 3,5 or 4" of lift with original skid plate, you do not need to play with the skid plate. Unlesse than it is different from a manual and auto tranny. Mine is a manual with 3,5" with regular height skid plate and no vibration at all.

EllJay05
08-09-2015, 06:14 PM
4 inch longarm put on in April. One inch body lift installed last year. I have a Teraflex transmission skid plate that was installed a few months ago. I was there for the installation but was not the one who physically did it, so I don't know if the linkage got adjusted any at the time. I don't think it was, but cannot confirm.

All of my issues occurred on Thursday and the Jeep has been sitting since. Strange thing is, when I fired up the Jeep to take it to the shop this morning, the CEL was gone...on it's own. I had left in time to get there early so I drove it around town a good bit just to see if it stayed off (still had time to make it for my time slot). It never came back on. So I told the mechanic that I wasn't coming in. Granted, I didn't drive it balls-out for like 30 minutes but it didn't come on with multiple brief errands. Should I expect it to come back on during a longer excursion, or do y'all think this was just a fluke that it ever came on to begin with? I did drive it in heavy rain the day before and there is a chance that water got somewhere it normally doesn't.

Lucky j
08-10-2015, 11:36 AM
So, the fist thing to look at imo is the link system. It could have been adusted and could have move after. Happen to a friend of mine before, in his case, the t-case lever was wrong.

As for the light, no idea on my side until you het the code out.

EllJay05
10-25-2015, 05:41 PM
anyone been offroading lately? My transmission will not shift out of first gear, but I went wheeling this weekend and just kept the RPMs low enough to where it wouldn't need to. Sometimes I forget that slow Jeep rides are the best Jeep rides, especially when it rains all weekend and your hard top is on anyway...

I'm gonna seek professional transmission help soon. I've replaced sensors and checked wires and all that jazz and it's still actin' a fool. Time to spend some money and get my baby runnin' right.
