View Full Version : 2005 LJ new to me

About 15 years ago my DD was a TJ Sahara 5 speed soft top. I have always regretted letting it go. In 2015 I returned to the Wrangler fold with a new 2 door Rubicon Hard Rock 6 speed. I have just short of 100,000 miles on it now and never want to let it go. 2.5 inch AEV lift, 33 inch tires, 4.56 gearing, winch, no rear seat but instead there is a refrigerator. It's my daily driver and my camping vehicle. Love the darn thing. It's a keeper and I will keep it. Going elk hunting with it later this year and a lot of scouting needs to be done beforehand too.

Then I saw a 2005 LJ automatic for sale by owner. Stock. Mopar hardtop. 145,000 miles. Clean. My son-in-law checked it out (mechanic) and gave it a thumbs up. I bought it. It's been at his shop for the last few weeks. Changes so far include a 3 inch BDS lift with fox shocks installed. New radiator. OPDA replaced with after market. 4.88 gearing installed. Front axle sleeved and rear axle trussed. Brake lines replaced with extended braided ones. Brake job done. I dunno what else but he says it's all good. We'll see. I pick it up in a few days. Keeping my JK though and will have the LJ too.

If anyone is interested, I'll post back with more info after I drive the LJ a bit.

Just saw this. Welcome to the forum. Nice jeep. I really like that color. Had a CJ8 years ago that I painted similar to that, yours looks great.

My son-in-law modified the dash to accept a Pioneer radio with a screen that's pretty big. It does CarPlay so I am learning that. Weird to have a modern radio with nav, music and all that in a jeep LJ. But I like it. Also odd having an automatic but it's pretty nice really for routine driving. I am planning on driving the LJ to North Carolina to visit my son in October. I am going to have to add cruise control (which it does not currently have) as I am thinking about that long drive across Texas.
