Stuff that steers, stops, or locks your LJ

  1. 2006 Death Wobble.

So I just got my first LJ a week or so ago. I knew going in that it needed work so no real surprise. Sometimes ( but not always) when I get up to about 50mph if the road is uneven or I hit a bump it starts shaking like crazy. Stops when I get below 45ish. I am pretty sure that I need new front...

  2. Limited slip rear ends?

I just read all LJ's have a limited slip rearend. Is that true? Just curious, I know my Rubicon has one.

  3. Parking brake cable length?

Don't make the same mistake I did. I ordered a rear parking brake cable from amazon and got the wrong one. Too short. Their vehicle description didn't mention not for unlimited (LJs). Worse thing was I waited too long to install it and now I can't return it. They do carry the right part if you look...

  4. Cool Installed new Spicer joints on rear shaft.

Got my correct U-joints earlier from Adam S from drivetrainamerica.com and installed them on my rear shaft. Chirps, vibes, humming, all gone. His service is topnotch. :2thumbsup: If it wasn't for his help and Spicer Tech support gettin me the correct pt's , I may have been still searchin for...

  5. Rebuild a locker. I need advice please.

I was given a locker with the outer portion of one of the cross pins ground up pretty bad and the 4.56 gears he we using with it. I have not dismantled the locker but a visual inspection with a pen light shows the rest of the locker 'appears' to be in good condition. The ring and pinion also appear...

  6. Rubicon front driveshaft?

I'm rebuilding my front driveshaft. After figuring out I had to melt the plastic out of the front u-joint, I'm now wondering how the new one is going to be held in. I've read it uses clips, but the groove for the plastic is much farther in than where a normal clip setup would be. Has anyone done...

  7. p0573 "brake circuit A high" code

Had the LJ out bombing around in more than a foot of snow with lots of hip-high drifts and managed to get stuck once where I tried to rock it free but ended up digging it out, went back at it and had a BLAST. When I went to start the Jeep the next time, I had a dreaded CEL and read the code:...

  8. Maximum backspace for 315/70r17 (34.4x12.70r17) Tires?

My LJ has the AEV high line kit, 33x12.50r15 Duratracs on the stock Ravine wheels with 1.5" wheel spacers and is still on the stock suspension. With the 1.5" spacers, I have plenty of steering room at full lock yet the tires are still covered by the AEV fenders. I am planning to go with...

  9. PSC Steering Upgrade Problems

Hi All, recently had a new PSC steering gear, pump, remote reservoir, and cooler installed on my 2006 rubicon unlimited. DEFINITELY a noticed improvement over stock steering. You can certainly tell the PSC parts have much more flow and this greatly influences steering on my 35" BFG's I've notice...

  10. Axle seals?

Anyone using the aftermarket axle seals (outer)? I need to change a wheel bearing assy pretty soon and was thinking about putting some on. Good for keeping stuff out, but if the inner seal goes you wouldn't know it. The fluid would just fill the axle tube.

  11. Steering centering?

I've seen this question asked before, but never properly answered. If I use the drag link adj. to center the steering wheel (which I've done many times), it moves the pitman arm off center. Won't this affect the steering output (at least on one side)? Would it be better to adjust the steering...

  12. Steering brace?

I had one of those braces on my CJ (crosses over to opposite frame), but was wondering if they're neccesary on the TJ/LJ. Only running 33" tires on medium trails. Or will it need one when it's 30 years old like my Scrambler was?

  14. Heavy duty diff. cover?

I'm looking for a heavy duty cover for the rear axle and I saw these on Ebay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/271082433834?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649#ht_1487wt_681 Does anyone know if these are truly thicker than the stock cover. Compared to the price of an after-market cover, it...

  15. Axle oil?

Why does the owners manual (and the shop manual) list the rear Rubicon 44 oil different than a non-rubicon 44? If it's because of the locker then why wouldn't the front be the same?

  16. 315/75/16 Goodyear Duratrac install

Just got done with a 3" Black Diamond short arm lift install and 1.5" wheel spacers so I could fit up some 315/75/16 Goodyear Duratracs to replace my worn out stock MTRs on my Rubicon. Beauty shot: Side shot: Head on:

  17. Cool 1.5" Wheel Spacer Install for big meats

With my new tires finally supposed to be in today, I did the wheel spacers. I did a 3" Black Diamond lift last week: 3" Black Diamond install thread Pulled the tires and cleaned up the face of the rotor from the surface rust that was all over them, this was mentioned in the instructions that...
