TJ side steps on a LJ? (not OEM)
Not sure if in the right section but.....
Has anyone put sidestep ( round tube type) from a TJ on an LJ? Will they fit? Pics? I need steps and I am on a budget, set for sale local that I can get for under $40.
I realize that they would not extend the full length between the wheels. I had a CJ8 years ago that I put CJ5/7 tube steps on, same issue but they looked better than I thought they would. I haven't even been able to find a take off stock set this cheap yet so was thinking of picking them up but would like to see if anyone tried it first.
thanks

probably have to drill new mounting holes at the rear.
Another option would be the shorter, plastic steps. They are exactly the same from TJ/LJ. Get the ones from a 2003+. The mounting holes and slots should already be in the frame, but you'll "probably" need new bolts.

Man, being closer, I would have gave you my oem plastic in a snap as soon as my new steel ones would have been built!

Re: TJ side steps on a LJ? (not OEM)
I'm sure I will run across something eventually. My wife mentioned she would like a step on there, she also likes driving it and we run around in it a lot together. I figure anything I can do to encourage her wanting to spend more time in a jeep is a win for me! My fun cars are usually junk so this one is her favorite so far. It's pretty comfortable, most everything works, and people always like it. I recently saw that our local pick-n-pull just got a TJ so if it has stock steps and they will let them go cheap I may just grab them. I thought I would have seen more LJ parts on craigslist or something local. I know there are a few LJs around here, and we have a couple of jeep clubs here too. Maybe all the LJ owners near me are shy or something. I figured since it was a model that they didn't make for that long, and since they are so cool , that there would be more enthusiasm for them here. I may just not have met enough of the local jeepers yet..............
