What size tires for Moab 16x8s?

    Morning,

My LJ came with the 15 inch wheels. Been looking to get new rims and tires as these are worn and in rough shape. Found a set of 16x8 Moabs from a 04 TJ ( I think). Previous owner already put on a 3" lift. How big of a tire can I run with stock gearing, etc without causing any issues, rubbing, etc. Is that like a 285/75.16 or 305/70.16? I mainly ride on the beach.

pics would be nice too if you have them please

Put some 285/75.16 BFGs on it Wednesday. No issues on the street. I mainly just ride on the beach so we will see how it is there. I am pleased though and like the stance.

Here is a pic in case anyone else is thinking of it and wants to see one before they purchase.

Hi, the 285-75-16 is a good choice, your lj has got a nice stance. I've had the same combo on my lj. Its the same diameter like 33-12.5-15 what i run now. With the 6 Speed and the the 4.10 rubicon axels everything is fine, even the gas milage.

Any clearance issues? Most folks add wheel spacers.

Not that I have noticed in normal driving. I did add a washer to the steering stop bolt because tires wanted to scrape ( the lower control arm I think) when I turned it all the way. I haven't had it off road or anything yet. I run on the beach in the summer but the water isn't warm enough yet for me to be out there. I used to surf all year but the older I get the less I like the cold. I am planning on taking it to Windrock in Tennessee this summer. That will be the first time I have ever used one of my jeeps for trails instead of just the beach and around town.
