Wheel backspacing
What's the proper backspacing when purchasing new wheels for an LJ
?
Looking at purchasing new 15' or 16' wheels with 33/10.5 tires
Would like have the tires even with the stock fenders or out 1"

Re: Wheel backspacing
Proper backspacing will depend on what tires you buy. Most oem jeep wheels are 5.5" (moabs are 5.0", Rubicons come stock with a bigger tire and wider flares) because that's what works with the stock size tires. A wider tire would need less backspacing to still be covered by the flare. However, the inside of a wider tire may rub the vehicle when turning or as the suspension cycles. Wheel spacers are then used to push out the tire if using the oem wheels. Not all tires measure exactly the same, but 4.0 - 4.5" is probably what you want.
If your buying new wheels, you will have better tire choices in 15". Especially in a C load range.Last edited by 1 Long TJ; 04-01-2017 at 01:17 PM.

Re: Wheel backspacing
I am planning on buying wheels also. 15x8
I went to a local shop today & they put on a 15x8 wheel that had a 33x12.50 tire with a 3.75 bs & it stuck out way to much probably a good 3 inches
I only want the tire to stick out about 1 to 2 inchesi do not want to run spaces
I have 17" jk wheels on it now with spaces & they must come off

Re: Wheel backspacing
Then 4.5 - 4.75, with a 33 x 10.5 should work.
Also, I think the JK Moabs have more backspacing than the TJ Moabs. Maybe you could borrow a 16" (TJ) Moab with a 33x12.50 tire, just to see how it looks.

Re: Wheel backspacing
Good pic, thank you
Any input on 15inch C rated tires
Versus going with a 16 & getting a D or E rated tires
I have read so much, flex, resistance & so on.

Re: Wheel backspacing
Not much choice att all in 10,5" wide with 15" wheels in the 33" size.
Almost all of the 33" in 15" wheels are 12.5" wide. To me, it is too wide. More dragging, bad fuel economy and rub in and stick out.
16" and 17 have a better choise at narrow tire or less than 11,5

Re: Wheel backspacing
Last fall I was getting a used top from this guy and I'm pretty sure he said that he put 33 x10.5s on this with the stock 15" wheels. If I recall correct he said that they were not available for a while but recently were back out there. Think they are BFGs. I took a pic of his jeep because I liked the stance and the color. Like the half cab look too but not enough to buy one myself....
